How to check this park

Little Desert National Park lies in the Wimmera on the traditional Country of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Peoples, a poor-soil landscape of heath and mallee where camping areas such as Ackle Bend and Horseshoe Bend sit along the Wimmera River, known to the Wotjobaluk Peoples as Barringgi Gadyin. A large fast-moving, lightning-ignited bushfire swept through the park last summer, and that fire history is still the dominant fact governing access here rather than any single facility notice.

Recorded conditions here are presently an aerial pest-control program and the ongoing bushfire-recovery closure: an aerial pest-animal control program using firearms is scheduled for specific dates and daily hours, during which visitor safety measures apply within the program area; and the park’s Eastern and Central Blocks both remain closed, a stage in the recovery from a fire that damaged roughly 70% of the park. ParkReady records the stated dates and area for the aerial program as given and does not assume the Eastern and Central Block closure has an end date beyond what the official page states.

Before visiting, check the official Parks Victoria page for the aerial control program’s current dates and hours if visiting during that window, and separately confirm whether your planned camping area or walk falls inside the closed Eastern or Central Blocks. Review VicEmergency and current fire-danger ratings before travelling, given the scale of last summer’s fire here. This site’s last-check time reflects automated retrieval, not an on-site inspection, and no matching condition here does not mean every block, track or riverside camping area at Little Desert is open.
