Little Desert National Park lies in the Wimmera on the traditional Country of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Peoples, a poor-soil landscape of heath and mallee where camping areas such as Ackle Bend and Horseshoe Bend sit along the Wimmera River, known to the Wotjobaluk Peoples as Barringgi Gadyin. A large fast-moving, lightning-ignited bushfire has previously swept through the park, and that fire history remains a dominant factor governing access here, more so than any single facility notice.
